Click and drag the soccer ball to move it.
Score sustainaballs (sustainable soccerballs), but avoid the unsustainaballs by 'kicking' it to your opponent's side or else it will detonate.

Sustainaball

Sustainaball is a projection-based interactive installation that transforms a soccer match into an immersive experience centered on, climate action and environmental responsibility. Players compete to score as many soccerballs as possible, but there’s a catch. You want to score soccerballs labeled with sustainable choices like a wind energy mill, but avoid the soccerballs with carbon-generating choices like coal-burning power plants. When this “unsustainaball” (unsustainable soccerball) appears, players hurry to kick it to the opponents side or else at time’s up it explodes!

Using real-time motion tracking and a projected digital soccer field, participants engage in embodied gameplay where their physical movement shapes the experience. Rather than relying on head-mounted displays or handheld controllers, Sustainaball uses full-body interaction, allowing audiences to immediately participate with minimal instruction. This creates a high-throughput installation format ideal for festivals, schools, and public events.

Sustainaball explores the central question: How can sustainability education become emotionally memorable, socially engaging, and physically intuitive? The project proposes that climate literacy is most effective when audiences learn through action, competition, and shared performance rather than passive information consumption. By merging sport, play, and interactive storytelling, Sustainaball invites participants to reflect on how everyday decisions influence environmental futures.
